Icon 12 principal Christian feastIn the central part of the icon is the Introduction to the Church of Our Lady of Sorrows and Virgin Mary. The icon shows the fulfillment of a promise: Joachim and Anna bring little Mary to the temple, where the Jerusalem priest meets the family. According to Church Tradition, he was the righteous Zacharias, the future father of John the Baptist, therefore, on the icon, his head is surrounded by a halo.
