The materials and tools are basically the same, with the exception of a few essential updates, such as sandpaper instead of quill. The term scagliola refers to a variety of gypsum found in nature in flake or chip form. It's a particular inlay technique that uses scagliola itself with other materials such as colored pigments and natural glue mixed in. - Masterpieces In the 16th century, scagliola was mainly used to imitate marble veining and marquetry. Later, the flexibility of the mixture was discovered as an eloborative technique. In the 17th century, scagliola became a true artistic expression. It proved capable of depicting a wider range of colors to build high-impact masterpieces. - Materials Scagliola works of art are produced in : hard stone, also known as slate, which is more durable and lighter marble, which is slightly lighter but more difficult to work. The technique for scagliola in hard stone is a little less time-consuming, as the material is less hard. Marble scagliola therefore takes longer to produce. As hard stone is more expensive than marble, but easier to work, there is virtually no price difference. The price difference for scagliola table tops is due to the complexity of the decorative motifs. - Table top The tabletop is inspired by a floral motif. The hard stone is inlaid with scagliola. The top features a glass slab. - Base A black metal base completes the scagliola tabletop. It has the same 80 cm diameter. Height: 47 cm.
