From an early age, he produced drawings. Later, in 1947, he became a member of a group of artists called "Art Society De Kempen". - Foreign inspirations In 1949, he worked in Paris for a few years. The same year, his first exhibition was held at the Van Abbe Museum and an art gallery in Eindhoven. In 1955, Ad Snijders produced his first oil paintings. His paintings were an immediate success. Exhibitions were organized and in 1959 he met his first collector. From 1960, he was also known in Italy and Paris. In 1962, he received a grant from the French government. This gave him the opportunity to experiment more and more with his talent, which marked the abstract expressionist period 1960-1965. From 1964 to 1984, Snijders used techniques that combined photography, text, oil paint and watercolor. For him, this was a new way of expressing himself and introducing more figurative elements into his work. Later, he turned to pencil drawings and oil paintings. From 1985 to 1990, he concentrated on this technique. Ad Snijders himself sees his career as an exploratory expedition. - Oil paintings In the next phase of his career, the painter chose unconditionally to make oil paintings. His recent paintings are linked to his early works in the same way as his colored pencil drawings. Although the same hand is at work, his current paintings show a more casual approach than the work of the fifties. But it's only an apparent casualness that lies behind these paintings. It's always a never-ending struggle, where nothing is obvious and every painting is a hard-won conquest. - Exhibitions Ad Snijders' work has been exhibited internationally and is on show in museums throughout the Netherlands. His works are collected by international art collectors. - Literature Dutch painters 1750 - 1950 By Pieter A. Scheen Ad Snijders By Tjeu - Museums Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven, Netherlands
