On the side is an inscription in Dutch: DESE KLANK ROEPT OM DRANK Translation: The sound of this bell calls for a drink. This bell can be attributed to Jan Crans and his son Cyprianus Crans. In the Netherlands, two comparable handbells can be found in museums. _______________________ ABOUT THE ARTIST Jan Crans was a famous Dutch bell and artillery founder, who lived and worked in Amsterdam, Enkhuizen and The Hague. He married twice. His first marriage produced a son, Cyprianus, who also became a bell caster. From his second marriage, he had two children, Cornelis, also a bell caster, and Reijnsjen.
