BERTHOUD (Ferdinand). Traité des horloges marines... Paris, J. B. G. Musier fils, 1773. In-8, 19 x 25 cm, XL + 590 pp, XXVII folded plates, contemporary binding in marbled brown calf, spine ribbed and decorated with gilt motifs. First edition illustrated with 27 folded engraved plates. A good, fresh copy of the chevalier de Fleurieu (engraved heraldic bookplate), who designed marine clocks with Berthoud and commissioned the voyage to test these clocks in 1768 and 1769. The copy then passed to the Swiss watchmaker Abraham Louis Perrelet (ink signature on title), inventor of the automatic watch. Small amount of red edge paint in the margins of a few plates, not serious. Covers and corners slightly rubbed.
