Icon of the Virgin "Joy to all the afflicted". Second half of the 19th century. The Virgin is surrounded by saints, including the Guardian Angel on her right. On the upper edge, the God Sabaoth (whose representation was theoretically forbidden by the Great Synod of Moscow in 1666/1667), on the left edge, the Guardian Angel and on the right edge Saint Anne. The upper spandrels represent the sun and moon. One of the many variants of this icon. Tempera on wood. 36 x 31cm On the back is a handwritten label mentioning a sale at Drouot on March 30, 1996 with Jean Roudillon as expert, and a clipping from the related catalog.
