An ormolu-gilded French pendule with Orpheus figure, Paris, circa 1800 Bronze body fire-gilded in ormolu technique. Base supported by four ball feet, finely decorated with putti, tendrils and festoons in relief. A square case in the middle with a partly enameled, partly punched dial and pierced hour and minute hands. Marked "Germain Quai des Ormes No. 8 à Paris". Crowned by a figure of Orpheus sitting gracefully on the clock case with a burning sacrificial bowl. Attributes from the hands missing. The mechanism with chime, pendulum and weight as well as a winding key (enclosed). Functionality not tested. Slightly rubbed in places. Very decorative piece! Measures approx. 51 x 37 cm. Condition: I - II
