Maurice DENIS (1870-1943) "La légende de Saint Christophe : La Forêt, Acte II scène 3", circa 1920, Gouache on paper mounted on canvas, monogrammed lower right, 27 x 30 cm. This is a preparatory work for the set of the opera "La Légende de saint Christophe" composed by Vincent d'Indy, and specifically for Act II, Scene 3. It was produced around 1920 (the first performance took place on June 9, 1920). Numerous preparatory works for this set are preserved, notably in the Musée Maurice Denis.
