Missal - Double leaf from a late Gothic missal. Latin manuscript on vellum, written on both sides in textura. With a 5-line floral initial in gold and colors as well as headings, staves, smaller initials and word separators in red and blue. Germany, 2nd half of the 15th century. Sheet size: approx. 29.5 x 20 cm (width when opened 40 cm), text area: 22.5 x 15.5 cm. Mounted on passepartout card with lateral fold. From the Easter Vigil, under unusually blank staves the text for the consecration of water on the eve of the Epiphany: "(Sit haec sancta, et innocens) creatura, libera ab omnia impugnatoris incursu et totius nequitie purgata discessu ...". The large initial introduces the introit "In die paschale". - Formerly used as a book jacket, stitching holes in the centerfold, two small triangular cut-outs at the head, dusty and with traces of glue, the outer side decorated with the initial rubbed and browned (stave lines almost erased), with inserted cover title "Holtzungs Protocol" and several ink splashes.
