Translated from the English after the second enlarged edition, and enriched with new additions (by C. S. Kramer; ed. by F. J. Bertuch). 4 in 5 volumes (volumes 2 and 4 in 2 sections each). With 1 engraved title and 2 text vignettes, 37 partly folded copper plates, numerous woodcut figures and partly paginated tables. Weimar, Industrie-Comptoir, 1797-1805. 20 x 12 cm. Contemporary half-leather bindings with gilt-stamped title and volume labels and gilt spine (somewhat rubbed and bumped, 2 title labels and 1 volume label have fallen off). All volumes in first German edition. - Humpert 13112 - The American physicist (1753-1814) spent half of his life in the Bavarian civil service, introduced the potato, reorganized the army and laid out the English Garden.
