Illustrated throughout with silkscreens. Vaduz/Salzburg, Contempora Libri et Artes, 1981. 2352 pp. (unpaginated), Chinese binding. 17.5 x 12 cm. Original paper boards with color illustrated original cloth bindings (English and French) of which 8 in original cloth slipcase together in printed and numbered original cardboard box, erroneously marked as edition C (box somewhat stained and bumped as well as slightly torn). Papiergesänge, exhibition catalog Bayerische Staatsbibiothek, 1992, no. 138, - copy of edition A in the "heavy high-gloss" bindings and with the silkscreens printed in black; of these, 8 volumes with the French belly band and 8 volumes with the English belly band, all signed by G. Brecht and the art bookbinder R. Rieser and 9 unusually numbered, copy: 22/27, on the rear inside cover of the banderole. - The elaborately produced encyclopedia, consisting solely of hand-printed serigraphs, was published in three different editions of 27 copies each. - The volumes themselves deliberately do without title pages, volume details and imprint, with only information on the title and imprint (in German, English, French, Schwyzerdütsch or Chinese) as well as the signatures of the two artists, where applicable, to be found on the belly bands. - As both the endpapers and the screen prints in Edition A are printed in black, the only colorful accents are the prints repeated in color on the back of the banderoles and the colorful ribbon markers. - "The playful, witty contrast between the small pictures and the elaborate, traditional production of the volumes gives the work its special charm.
