Lenordez, Pierre. Souvenir. Bronze, golden-brown patina, mounted on a bronze plinth and screwed to a wooden base. Signed and with the foundry signature of "V. Boyer" on the plinth and inscribed on a bronze trompe-l'oeil plaque "Souvenir par Caravan & Emilia Gagnant le Derby 1862 Gr. Prix de l'Empereur 1863. Entrainé par: C. Bains." After 1863. dimensions: 25 x 32 x 8 cm. With wooden base: 27 x 33 x 13 cm. The English thoroughbred "Souvenir" (born 1859, parents: Caravan & Emilia, trained by Charles Bains) won two major races according to the engraved inscription: The Derby of 1862 and the Grand Prix de l'Empereur the following year. This makes him one of the first winners of the legendary Hippodrome in Longchamp, opened in 1857, in which only the best three-year-old horses that had previously won a Derby were allowed to participate. - The patina on the mane somewhat more heavily rubbed, the wooden base minimally rubbed in places.
