Tapis - Tibet (1900-1920)

Thick, hand-woven and hand-knotted wool rug from Tibet, decorated with a five-clawed dragon chasing the flaming pearl, surrounded by scrolling clouds and Lishui (beautiful primordial waters) from which emerge the three sacred peaks. Good condition. 158 x 82 cm Provenance: Sandro VOLTA Collection (1900-1986) and descendants. Sandro VOLTA, writer, journalist and art collector, signed the preface to his friend Tristan Tzara's "Manifesto of Dadaism". On May 16 and 17, 1957 at Hôtel Drouot, part of his collection was sold by Maître Rheims. Sansdro VOLTA was a correspondent for the newspaper LA STAMPA in China and Tibet from 1925 to 1932.
