Henry and Emma, imitated from Chaucer's beautiful Brune, by Mathieu Prior. S.l., 1764. In-8, red morocco, triple gilt fillet, small gilt fleur-de-lys at the corners, ornate smooth spine, interior roulette, gilt edges (Period binding). First edition of this translation given, according to Barbier, by Madame d'Arconville (1720-1805), a French woman of letters and anatomist. A fine copy in morocco, with the author's bookplate engraved by Louise Le Doulceur after Charles Eisen, pasted into the lining. Small scuff marks on second cover.
