Cologne, Pierre Gaillard, 1736. 2 volumes in-12, English green Russian leather, gilt fillet, smooth spine decorated with gilt fillets, small interior roulette, gilt edges (English binding of the period). Attractive edition, illustrated with an allegorical frontispiece engraved by G. Vander Gouwen and 100 (45 + 55) large mid-page vignettes in the text, all engraved in intaglio after Romain de Hooghe and retouched by Bernard Picart. These figures originally illustrated the 1701 edition, and some bear the signature of Jan van Vianen. From the libraries of Arthur Hugh Smith Barry (engraved armorial bookplate) and George Arthur Williams (Williams's Library Cheltenham wetstamp). Small, unbroken crack on the edge of folio X2 in volume II. Slight angular wetness on a few leaves and some spotting.
