La Tentation de l'Occident. Paris, Bernard Grasset, 1926; in-12 (19x12.5 cm), half red chagrin with corners, spine (a little faded), cover and spine (spine faded and small tears). 205-(1) pages. First edition, press service. Handsome autograph dispatch signed "To André and François Berge, as a token of literary sympathy; and to the signatures of the petition protesting against the judgment that condemned me, in thanks", inked stamp of Y. Berge, doctor in Le Havre. François Berge, writer, founded the magazine "les Cahiers du mois" with André Berge, psychoanalyst. In 1923, Malraux looted bas-reliefs at the temple of Banteay Srei; he was arrested in Phnom Penh and sentenced to three years' imprisonment. His wife mobilized the intellectuals of the time in Paris, who signed a petition in support of Malraux, including André Breton, Gide, Paulhan, Max-Jacob, Mauriac and others.
