Jephté, tragédie traduicte du latin de George Buchanan Escossois. Paris, De l'Imprimerie de Robert Estienne, 1573. In-8, overlapping vellum (modern binding). Second edition of this French translation of the Latin tragedy by Buchanan (1506-1582). The first was published in Orléans by Louis Rabier in 1567. A Protestant humanist, Florent Chrestien (1541-1596) studied Greek in Geneva with Henri Estienne, and was a friend of the physician Jacques Grévin. He took part in the writing of the Satyre ménippée (1593) and was one of Ronsard's detractors in the "Querelle des discours", notably with his virulent poem Apologie ou deffense d'un homme chrestien pour imposer silence aux sottes répréhensions de M.
