Le Tombeau de tresillustre princesse Marguerite de France, duchesse de Savoye. Ensemble celuy de tresauguste & tressaincte memeoire, François premier de ce nom, & de Messieurs ses enfans. Paris, Gabriel Buon, 1575. Plaquette in-4 of 14 leaves, fawn morocco, triple gilt fillet, gilt coat of arms in center, spine decorated with repeated numeral, black morocco lining set with gilt fillet, chocolate moire endpapers, smooth edges (Honegger). Second edition of this literary tomb composed for Marguerite de France, sister of Henri II, who was the protector of the Prince of French poets. It contains, in separate pagination, the Estreines au Roy Henri III..., in which Ronsard claims the right to freely criticize those close to the royal family, and castigates the king's sweethearts for dressing in foreign fashions. Bound in the collector's coat of arms and cipher. More or less heavy staining at the bottom of the first three quires. Numerous blank leaves subsequently bound to thicken the volume. J. P.
