Description

TABOUROT (Étienne).

Les Bigarrures du Seigneur des Accordz. Paris, Jean Richer, 1583. In-16, speckled basane, ornate spine, initial F stamped at head, red title page, red speckled edges (Binding circa 1800). First edition of this delightfully motley collection composed by Tabourot (1549-1590) at the age of 18. Tchemerzine reports two editions of the same date, but it's not clear which was the first: our copy has 12 and 219 leaves (216 leaves in the other edition). The work was a great success. It contains many free passages, and today constitutes a most valuable guide to the study of our ancient poetry, as the author provides a wealth of information on rebuses, anagrams, echoes, equivocations and all the verse forms in use at the time. Handwritten bookplate on title Constantin, dated 1638. From the Jacques Dennery library (I, 1984, no. 197). Browning on endpapers and flyleaves. Hinges cracked and fragile, head cap restored. Picot, Rothschild, n°1777. - Tchemerzine, t. V, p. 832. - Diane Barbier-Mueller, Inventaire..., n°813.
