Les Bigarrures du Seigneur des Accordz. Paris, Jean Richer, 1583. In-16, speckled basane, ornate spine, initial F stamped at head, red title page, red speckled edges (Binding circa 1800). First edition of this delightfully motley collection composed by Tabourot (1549-1590) at the age of 18. Tchemerzine reports two editions of the same date, but it's not clear which was the first: our copy has 12 and 219 leaves (216 leaves in the other edition). The work was a great success. It contains many free passages, and today constitutes a most valuable guide to the study of our ancient poetry, as the author provides a wealth of information on rebuses, anagrams, echoes, equivocations and all the verse forms in use at the time.
