PERUVIAN VIREREAL SCHOOL (17th - 18th centuries) "St. Michael the Archangel"

Oil on canvas. This triumphant image of Saint Michael, as a young man with beautiful features defeating the devil, became one of the most successful pictorial compositions in the territories that made up the Spanish Empire in the 17th century. In the dissemination of this model, devised by Martín de Vos, the fact that it was brought to print by Hieronimus Wierix played an important role, creating different works that were inspired by it, both in the Iberian Peninsula and in the American viceroyalties. Measurements: 132 x 99 cm.
