Silver 925 (sterling), embossed and chased, bulbous body with oval base, slightly fluted wall and wide mouth with broad snout, attached handle with vegetal design, large flowers with foliage on the wall, partly wide open blossoms with foliage, a sculpted bud on the handle, manufactory mark (standing lion with "W") on the base, indication of fineness "STERLING", model number "6554" and indication of capacity "5 PINTS" (~2.36 liters), h 23 cm, w 23 cm, weight 726 gr., Whiting Manufacturing Co. ~1900, engraved monogram "MLS" on the wall, good condition with traces of use (pressure marks on the ambitus) 0129 The Whiting silver manufactory was founded in 1866 and taken over by the Gorham Company in 1924, from 1905 onwards the products all bear year marks, so this jug was made before 1905 Prov.: According to the previous owners probably from the estate of Margaret Louisa Shepard (1845 - 1924, née Vanderbilt)
