Large medal estate of Major Otto von Schmieden, a) large, eight-piece medal clasp, including Iron Cross 1870, 2nd class, Red Eagle Medal, 4th class with swords, Crown Medal, 4th class with swords (one-piece), Düppel Storm Cross, Alsenkreuz, Königsgrätz Commemorative Cross and War Memorial Coin 1864, all award copies, b) Iron Cross 1870 1st class (awarded posthumously January 19, 1873), trial award copy, reverse with master's mark "I. WAGNER & S." and fineness indication "14 LÖL". Class (awarded posthumously on January 19, 1873), trial award copy, on the reverse master's mark "I. WAGNER & S." and indication of fineness "14 LÖTH:", all together in specially made case with lid inscription "Orden und Ehrenzeichen des Königlich Preussischen Majors ... Otto von Schmieden...", clasp B 18 cm, box 22.5 x 16 cm, all in good condition with minor signs of age and wear and c) extensive group of certificates with eight associated award certificates (Iron Cross 1st and 2nd class on one document), appointment certificates for Second Lieutenant 1853, for Lieutenant 1860 and for Captain 1865 with facsimile signature of Emperor Wilhelm I, Certificate of the Berlin War College 1859 as well as original photo of the recipient, documents mostly in good condition, partly slightly browned or stained due to paper, partly with traces of storage in the upper margin, in this scope and condition probably a unique legacy of great rarity 0663 The Iron Cross 1st Class is one of the rarest of the Iron Crosses. The Iron Cross 1st class is one of the rare proof examples of the company Johann Wagner & Sohn in Berlin with the core type A of the Berlin iron foundry in excellent condition without the typical damage such as core breakage or the repair point on the pin hook, this proof version is one of the great rarities among the Prussian decorations Julius Otto von Schmieden was born in Soldin in 1834 and attended the cadet corps in Potsdam from 1845, in 1853 he became second lieutenant in the 4th Brandenburg Infantry Regiment. Brandenburg Infantry Regiment No. 24, from 1856 to 1869 he attended the war school in Berlin, in 1860 he was promoted to first lieutenant in the 8th Brandenburg Infantry Regiment No. 64, in 1863 to adjutant of the 11th Infantry Brigade, in 1965 to captain and in 1867 to major in the 5th Brandenburg Infantry Regiment No. 48. promoted, 1871 he fell at Mazange in northern France Prov.: Julius Otto von Schmieden, property of the descendants
