Vermeil - Grand Cross (Grand Croix) of the Order of St. Louis (Ordre royal et militaire de St. Louis), Silver, entirely gilt and color enameled in the center, domed, one-sided embossed breast star with Bourbon lilies, central overlay with enameled figure of St. Louis with ermine coat and two laurel wreaths, slightly cambered pin on the reverse, on the lily lower right guarantee mark France (hare's head), 71 x 70 mm, 41.8 gr, collector's item late 19th century, enamel minimally chipped, otherwise very good condition 9102 The order was founded by Louis the Great in 1693, abolished in 1791 and reintroduced by Louis XVIII in 1814, finally abolished in 1830, the number of members was limited, so there were only eight Grand Croix, 24 Commandeurs and 700 Chevaliers at a time
