Northern Italy, after a Paduan model, 16th century Passing wolf in bronze with brown patina. Height 8.5 Width 17.4 cm. (worn patina) Green marble base, old labels. Provenance: Raymond Subes collection, Château de Larnagol; through family descent, Blois. Northern-Italy, 16th C. A bronze figure of a walking wolf after a Paduan model. On a green marble base. Motture, "Andrea Riccio, Renaissance master of bronze", Philip Wilson, 2008, p. 125 ; - L. Planiscig, "Andrea Riccio", Vienna, 1927, p. 302, fig. 346. Only a few examples of this passing wolf are known. One of them, formerly in the collections of the Staatliche Museen in Berlin, was published by Planiscig in 1927 in his work dedicated to Andrea Riccio. Another, belonging to the Viennese collector Robert Rudolf Theodor Mayer (1874-1974), came onto the art market a few years ago (Sotheby's, London, December 3, 2019, lot 35).
