Koranic manuscript Ink, polychrome pigments and gold on paper, bound in brown and red leather India or Eastern Iran, 16th - 17th century 25 x 15.4 x 0.8 cm The opening folio of this Qur'anic manuscript features a Sarlow frontispiece illuminated with mandorles, abundant floral motifs and geometric friezes in polychrome and gold. This is followed by a text written in black ink, spread over 9 lines per page. Lines 1, 5 and 9 are in beautiful riqa' thuluth script, alternated with naskh on the intermediate lines, which are bordered by cartouches adorned with floral friezes, creating a beautiful symmetry. The brown leather binding is embossed with mandorls and double-flower motifs in red on both boards. (Worn, leaves detached, some margins reinforced).
