Description

Pair of satinwood and mahogany commodes, one opening with two drawers, the other with two leaves, Bénou breche marble tops resting on rounded uprights terminating in cambered feet, apocryphal stamp of RVLC; (accidents and restorations). Louis XVI period. Height : 93 cm ; Width : 134 cm ; Depth : 61 cm These two commodes are directly inspired by the commodes designed by Jean-François Oeben and delivered for the Marquise de Pompadour for the Château de Ménars around 1760. Also made by his brother Simon Oeben in satinwood, they are also found in the furnishings of the Château de Chanteloup around 1770. This series of commodes differs in the way they open, originally combining doors and drawers, frequently simply with drawers or, as in the case of one of these two commodes, with leaves.
