The dandy "A dandy is a man who dresses, a man whose activity, mission and existence consist in the way he dresses"
Thomas Carlyle, Sartor Resartus, 1831
The waistcoat is the indispensable accessory for any self-respecting dandy. It is the result of the changes in the French-style dress of the 18th century. In the Romantic period, it had a shawl collar which it kept until the end of the period. While the fashion is for black clothing, the coloured waistcoat becomes a manifesto for the Dandy. During the day, it could be in white piqué, in the evening rather in satin. But it can also have much more original colours. The bright green of our waistcoat is the proof. At first very high and cylindrical, the crown gradually tightens at the base, sometimes even taking on a truncated cone shape. From the 1840s onwards, it will gradually lose height. Most often in taupe, more rarely in straw or even velvet.
