Paris Crépy 1775 12 copper engr. mounted on hardboard with a total size of 126,5 x 140,5 cm (partially browned, dampstains, a few small missing parts, twisted! board and slightly used). Continental wall map of Africa based on 4 central sheets, plus borders, in a later state by Jean-Baptiste Crépy (1st ed.: 1740). Geographically, the map beautifully features the continent, including an allegorical cartouche, an inset map of the Marianas, a geographical and a historical description in the lower decorative border, and 30 vignettes on African history rendering an interesting mix of Egyptian and biblical history (Passage through the Red Sea), continuing with later military, political and economical events, including scenes from the Congo, a view of Tripoli, and the Dutch settlements in West and South Africa.
