Hondius 1614 4°: engr. title-page-[6]-360-[6] pp., 6 folding pls, 48 (of 51) engr. text-ills (title of Latin edition, pp. 171-174 missing, last page with printers' mark, repaired edges, corners and tears in folding maps, marginal notes, dampstains in corners, corner on p. 137 and part of the map of the North Pole missing, coloured margins on pl. p. 235). Dutch vellum binding, blind-stamped, ribbons missing (handwritten notes on endp., used). First and very rare Dutch augmented edition of Pontanus' history of Amsterdam, interesting not only for the description of the city, but also for the partial report of the Dutch voyages to the North (1594-1596) and the first two voyages to India (1595-1598). Includes the maps of Holland, the North Pole and Nova Guinea, two city plans and a view of the stock exchange of Amsterdam; 11 of the text-ills engraved by B. Wright are maps.
