Moucheron, Isaac de
Attributed to MOUCHERON, Isaac de [View on a lake and a grotto from a bank]. [1st half of the 18th c.] Sanguine pencil, 20,5 x 12,5 cm, laid paper, glued on framed laid paper with mention "I. de Moucheron fecit". Typical view by the Dutch painter Moucheron (Amst. 1667-1744) who travelled in Italy. Is it a real landscape (villa d'Este at Tivoli ?) or an imaginary Italianate view with garden, grotto, classical architecture and statuary ? Prov. Victor Winthrop Newman (1860-?), American engraver and collector whose collection was sold in 1920 (embossing stamp, L. 2540).
