Brabantia ducatus: tabula ducatus Brabantiae continens marchionatum sacri impery et dominium Mechliniense. Amsterdam Pieter Verbiest 1666 Not coloured (splitt. c'fold rep., some chips of paper lacking on central lower edge, trimmed to border, printing fault in lower r. corner). Good copy. 3rd state of this "Carte-a-figures" (1st published 1628) based on the map by Claes Jansz. Visscher of 1622. Ornamental border with nice city prospects on top (Leuven, Brussels, Antwerp, 's Hertogenbosch) and bottom (Tienen, Bergen-op-Zoom, Lier, Helmondt, Breda & Mechelen), and figures in typical dress at sides featuring a couple of the nobility, a merchant and his wife, a couple of peasants and a Malines couple. Title at top center, 2nd part of the title in cart. lower left end above the figures. In the upper corners portraits of Albert & Isabella, central coat-of-arms of Brabant, in lower corners arms of Mechelen and Antwerp and a central portrait of Ambrogio Spinola. Verso blank. "Verbiest used the geographical content as well as the decorative borders of the 1622 map of Claes Jansz. Visscher as a model and copied them faithfully" (Schilder). Ref. Schilder, MCN VI: 60.3.
