Lot n° 25 - <p>Book XVIIIth - "Description of the festivities given by the city of Paris, on the occasion of the Wedding of Madame Louise-Elisabeth of France, &amp; Dom Philippe, Infant &amp; Grand Admiral of Spain, on the twenty-ninth &amp; thirtieth of August one thousand seven hundred and thirty-nine. "Paris: Imprimerie de P. G. Le Mercier, 1740. 22 p. In-plano. (text) + 13 p.; Complete. Full red morocco with the arms of the city of Paris. The only edition of this superb festive book in in-plano format, dedicated to the marriage by proxy of Elisabeth of France, eldest daughter of Louis XV, then aged 12, and Philippe de Bourbon, infantryman of Spain, second son of Philippe V of Spain, on 26 August 1739.</p><p>It was one of the most sumptuous celebrations given in Paris in the 18th century.</p><p>This luxury work was more or less sumptuously dressed. The sovereign and the princes of his family received copies covered in morocco decorated with lace, the ministers of the moroccos less richly decorated and the simple bishops of the volumes modestly bound in calf, all bearing in the centre of the plates the arms of the city that had financed the undertaking.</p><p><br/></p><p>Our copy is preserved in a sumptuous period binding in full red morocco, with the arms of the city of Paris. Spine spine with fleur-de-lyses boxes and title.</p><p>Very complete of the 13 plates of which 8 on double page and 5 full page engraved by Blondel (with a printing error: plate VI is notated VII and plate VII is notated VIII).</p><p><br/></p><p>The plates engraved by J.-Fr. Blondel represent: the geometrical plan of the part of the Seine where the feast was given; the temple of the Hymen, decoration of the fireworks placed on the solid ground of the Pont-Neuf; geometrical elevation of the throne built so that Their Majesties could see the feast, executed on Gabriel's drawings; the plan and the geometrical elevation of the music hall raised in the middle of the river between the Pont-Neuf
